Essay on Abolishing Corporal Punishment in the United...
Corporal punishment is a discipline method in which an administering adult inflicts pain upon a student (usually using a paddle) in response to a students offensive behavior. Nowadays regulations have been created as to how many ââ¬Å"swatsâ⬠can be inflicted, by whom, and with what instrument. In the short term, those who are physically punished are alleged to commit violence against other children, against teachers and against school property. As far as long-term effects are concerned, it is alleged that significant numbers of people who commit crimes were physically punished as children. It is these arguments that lie behind the saying violence breeds violence. All forms of corporal punishment in schools must be banned given that all violence must be banned in schools and all corporal punishment influences violence in schools. (CS) Just because an official is promoting violence, instead of a student, does not make it okay. Punishing a student with violence is taking the easy way out of the situation. It is like putting a Band-Aid over a cut for the quick and easy fix. It may be a way to create an immediate response, but it is inhumane and for lack of a better word, lazy. So this leaves us with a choice; either we continue taking the ââ¬Å"quick fixâ⬠, or we take action by permanently abolishing corporal punishment. No one wants to treat children, the future of our country, with just a quick fix that ca hurt them in the long run .(DS) So we need to confront the problem head on by taking action and finding other means of punishment. Constitutionalism vs Absolutism Free Essays
Constitutionalism vs Absolutism In the following paragraphs Iââ¬â¢m going to explain what constitutionalism is, and how it differs from absolutism. Constitutionalism is the way a state or country governs itââ¬â¢s people based off of laws set forth to protect the peopleââ¬â¢s rights and liberties. These laws are called constitutions, for example the Constitution of the United States. We will write a custom essay sample on Constitutionalism vs Absolutism or any similar topic only for you Order Now There are two types of constitutional governments, republican and monarchy. Within a constitutional republic the sovereign is elected by the people to govern according to the constitutional laws. Constitutional monarchy is almost the same, except a king or queen rules according to the constitutional laws, but is given some political authority. As with constitutional republic a constitutional monarchyââ¬â¢s powers rest in the electorates. The best example of constitutionalism is John Lockeââ¬â¢s Second Treatise of Government. He states, ââ¬Å"liberty to follow oneââ¬â¢s own will in anything that isnââ¬â¢t forbidden by the rule, and not to be subject to the inconstant, uncertain, unknown, arbitrary will of another man. â⬠(John Locke) The difference between constitutionalism and absolutism is that the king or sovereign is believed to be ordained by God. There are no rules or regulations for the sovereign to run his state. This gives him the ultimate power to rule over his subjects as he sees fit. No one can challenge his authority because his word is Godââ¬â¢s word, to question the king, would be questioning God, and this would be considered treason. (Mike Cox) The infamous Louis XIV, other wise known as the ââ¬Å"Sun Kingâ⬠, governed by this mentality. He has been heard saying, ââ¬Å"I am the State! You also have Thomas Hobbeââ¬â¢s Leviathan, which goes on to describe how people need an absolute ruler to keep the peace and discourage civil war. To conclude, I have given you a descriptive explanation on constitutionalism, and described how it differs from absolutism. As you see it is a matter of how much power a sovereign has over his people, and how much power the people have over him. http://www. ea rlymoderntexts. com/pdf/lockseco. pdf http://www. sparknotes. com/philosophy/hobbes/themes. html A History of Western Society Vol II How to cite Constitutionalism vs Absolutism, Papers

Because, most, if not all of your clients are online, and if you dont have an online presence, good luck trying to land writing gigs. Here are three ways to signal to potential clients that youve opened shop and are now ready to get paid to write. 1. Create a Gravatar If youve been busily commenting away on all your favorite freelance writer sites, then Im sure youve noticed the small images next to peoples comments or questions in various forums. These little images are called avatars.à Having a Gravatar is an avatar that makes it a whole lot easier to bounce from blog to blog or forum to forum without having to upload an image each time you leave a comment. Why is this important to your freelance writing business? Its the beginning of branding yourself ââ¬â The head shot or picture you use to tell the world who you are should be constant all across the digital world. From all your social media profiles to your author bio to even your Gravatar, having a consistent photo will establish your brand and help others quickly recognize you. It helps you stand out ââ¬â Linking your photo with your meaningful and insightful comments will get youà noticed more than if you didnt have your Gravatar. Also, having the interaction with the blog owner and other commenters lets you be easily visible and known. This contributes to your credibility as an authority in your niche. It can drive traffic to your site ââ¬â As you leave more and more comments on various blogs, readers will begin to recognize you because of what you bring to the comments ââ¬â useful engagement. This in turn, will drive traffic to your site because readers will want to check you out. Blog owners may get wind of you as well, and guest-posting opportunities may arise, bringing you even more traffic to your blog. So, having a highly identifiable image linked with an insightful response or unique opinion will grow awareness to your brand as a freelance writer. à 2. Create a Professional Email Address and Include a Signature in Your Footer Here is where it gets real ââ¬â having a professional email account. Its important when developing your brand as a freelance writer to create an email that is professional and signals to prospective clients you are a business. Just think about it ââ¬â if you were looking for a web designer to design your website, would you take someone serious if their email address was, [emailprotected]? So, if you want to be taken seriously, have a professional email address. The best, by far, is a customized, domain-specific email like [emailprotected]. You know what this means, right? Stepping up and registering your own domain (your writer website will be focused on later on in the series. For now, I want to focus on the little things to get you ready for paid writing gigs). Another thing that will help you build your credibility fast as a freelance writer is to have an email signature at the end of every email you send. You may think its a small thing to do, but its usually the little things that can set you apart from other freelance writers. So, what can you include in your email signature? A head shotââ¬â Many email platforms have the option of putting your head shot in your email signature. While it isnt necessary to do this, it can quickly create a sense of trust when corresponding with a potential client. Its also another way to extend your brand in your email. Social media contactââ¬â Make it easy for clients and prospects to contact you on any medium. Dont overwhelm your signature with 7 social media links; keep it between 1-4. For me, I only have my Twitter handle as I get the most action on this social media platform. Your phone number ââ¬â Designate a professional line for your freelance writing business. There are many online services that offer a free phone number. Google Voice is the most popular, but another service include iNum. Your writer website ââ¬â Once you have your writer website domain, make sure to include it in your email footer. A tagline ââ¬â If you decide to have a tagline, you could always include this as part of your email signature. This comes in handy when you decide to diversify your business and include other services such as editing or coaching. Your tagline can include these services as a way to communicate you do more than just write. 3. Become Familiar With Online Writing The online world is fast-paced and people dont have the time to read everything that they see on a site. So, they skim. In fact, over 80% of users scan blog posts and articles. Most readers pick out the certain elements in a blog post. These are: Your headline Your subheadings Lists and bullet lists Short paragraphs or one sentence paragraphs. Tailor Your Writing for the Online Scanners So, if you are new to writing for an online audience, the best tip I can give you is to create a lot of white space. This refers to the amount of space between your text. Having very little white space means having big blocks of texts. For the online scanner, most likely they will skip words, sentences and paragraphs. If you want to maximize their time on your post (and eventually your clients posts), then try these tips for creating more white space: Make paragraphs no more than 3 sentences Include a 1 sentence paragraph Bold important ideas or sentences in your post Break up your paragraphs with subheadings, lists and bullet lists Here are some other miscellaneous online writing rules to follow: Use one space after a period Dont underline phrases as this looks like a link Create links in your text by linking to relevant words or phrases. For example, if you want to link to a post about a job board, its better to link:à job board than many places. Always provide links in your post. Whether they are internal links (other posts on your blog) or external links (posts you found on other peoples blogs). This helps readers find more information on a topic and it shows readers you did your homework and didnt just steal ideas from others. Consider putting visuals to break up longer posts. Specific Online Writing: SEO and SMO Editorial You might come across different types of writing. A popular type is SEO friendly or SMO friendly writing. Search Engine Optimized (SEO) writing, according to Jennifer McKnight on FreelancerFAQs In a nutshell, itââ¬â¢s the practice of manipulating content in a way that improves a siteââ¬â¢s search engine ranking. This is the ultimate goal of any online marketer or blogger because increased search engine visibility translates to more visitors, which equals more revenue and a prominent Web presence. Clients may have you write with a specific keyword in mind and its our job to create content that incorporates relevant keywords while still making it reader friendly. Ideally, you write for your audience, but are conscious of industry related terminology. (Once you have a WordPress website up and running, there are many free additions you can add to your site to optimize your content for the search engines. These free add-ons are called plugins for WordPress. One is Yoast, a free SEO plugin. Now, dont worry if you dont have a website, my series will walk you through setting up a WordPress blog for you). Social Media Optimized (SMO) writing uses social media to increase awareness of a brand or business. Trending topics and writing to pique reader curiosity are the main ways to attract web traffic using SMO style writing. Ideally, clients use both types of writing styles to help increase traffic and conversion rates. All of this leads down to the basic fact that most online writing freelance writers do will be conversational in nature. This just basically means: Avoiding big words when you can say other words like use for utilize, or joking for banter Try to write as if you are talking to a friend or one person Use ways to engage the reader by posing questions such as, do you have the same problem with writers block as I do? or is your blog ready to make money? Have a call-to-action at the end of your post or site content. This just means telling your readers to do something like sign up to your newsletter or buy a product or leave a comment. à Get Paid to Write ââ¬â Step-by-Step I just outlined three easy ways to get paid to write as a brand new wrier. With a Gravatar, email signature and brushing up on your online writing skills, you are on your way to getting paid to write. My next post in this series will go into if you are really cut out to be a freelance writer. Remember to share and Pin this!

The 1920s as a New Age.
The 1920s as a New Age. The 1920's was a period of change and turmoil for the US on all fronts. Suffering from post-war withdrawal and home grown prosperity this decade can be argued as a period of anxiety, intolerance, hedonism, and liberation. While one aspect of the American lifestyle burgeoned with new culture and technology the other spiraled towards isolationism and nativism. The fear of communism and foreign encroachment on American government and values led to much anxiety and intolerance. The red scare, for example, 'red listed' Hollywood actors and blue collar workers alike, causing employers to shun them. Labor unions and strikes were blamed on communists while traditional fundamentalism was reinforced. This time period also came with the rebirth of the Ku Klux Klan which had largely died out by the turn of the century. With this new birth, the list of the hated grew longer, including Jews, modernists, and foreigners. Foreigners were also discriminated by the nativists, who's members grew to inclu de the general US population, causing the creation of the Emergency Quota Act of 1921 and the Immigration Act of 1924 each plugging the flow on the new immigration.United StatesAlong with this anxiety and intolerance was the new US hedonism and liberation. Restructuring of American morals led to 'hedonism' to the old world values. One piece bathing suits, shorter skirts, and sexual exploration all came along with the youths disillusionment directly caused by the literature of the times and Freudian thinking. The advent of the radio, car, and talking movie also helped spread American culture. Liberation was also benefited by the car allowing youths and women to travel beyond the grasps of husbands and parents allowing for more job availability for women and more freedom for kids. The age of the 1920's although shunning and discriminating against many new groups of Americans...

Classical Composer Assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Classical Composer Assignment - Essay Example His music is also known for its humor aspect and its ability to entertain the audience. Haydn incorporated humor in his music through sudden loud chord similar to the ones he used in the London symphony. He also employed jokes and false ending to incorporate a humor aspect in his music. Haydn realized that the music performed during his era was not in accordance to the dayââ¬â¢s fashion. He embarked on a mission to create fashion in music or to create fashionable music. He is considered as the founder of the stylistic era or period commonly referred to as Strum und Drang. Haydn did not receive much musical influence during his childhood although he ended up as a musician. Although he was introduced to the harp by his parent during his early childhood, his musical career owes much to other classical musicians. Haydn realized that the classical music scene required a change. This included the involvement of audience in performances. Classical music was more concerned with passing of the message or marking a ceremony or an event. This was the main problem that Haydn identified in classical music. Unlike other artists of his era, Haydn composed music and sought an upgrade for the existing music. This effort is well represented by his role in changing of style and the introduction of performance in classical

How to reduce the incidence of lower extermity amputations in diabetes Literature review
How to reduce the incidence of lower extermity amputations in diabetes with Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy - Literature review Example This study looks into hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), a popular treatment method for decompression sickness. It utilizes a special sealed chamber which is pressurized up to three times the normal atmospheric. Inside the chamber the patient can breathe pure oxygen, hence effectively increasing the amount of oxygen in the blood. Over the years, HBOT has been used to treat various illnesses including gas embolism, gas gangrene, skin grafts, bone infections and many others. While HBOT has been used to treat many conditions, there is still conflicting evidence as to its effectiveness in treating infections of the skin and tissues. In a research by Meryl Brod it was mentioned, ââ¬Å"Lower extremity ulcers are among the most common and costly complications of diabetes. They are a leading cause of amputation and account for more hospital days than other diabetic complicationsâ⬠. Aside from its economic cost, diabetic ulcers has a negative impact on a personââ¬â¢s quality of life; thereby making treatment for lower extremity ulcers a priority for many health care practitioners. Having said this, it is now important to qualify that this critical appraisal isnââ¬â¢t really about preventing amputations among diabetic patients, but rather, finding an effective treatment to cure foot ulcers. The researcher searched two databases, PubMed and Google Scholar. The search terms used were hyperbaric oxygen therapy, curing diabetic ulcers, preventing diabetic amputations, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and diabetes, and effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen in curing diabetic wounds. Thousands of resources were returned so several criteria for inclusion was created. Resources were accepted or rejected based on the following criteria: (1) the study cover the treatment for diabetes wounds and ulcers (2) the study must not be older than 1995; (3) the study must be in English; (4) the study must involve human subjects. Accepted resources were subjected to an ancestry search of th eir references to discover new resources which can be used to address the clinical question. Ten (10) studies were then included at the end of this search. The resources are intentionally international in scope in order to determine what factors may affect the efficacy of HBOT in treating lower extremity wounds and ulcers. Method for Appraising Articles For the purpose of this study, methodology for rapid critical appraisal (RCA) will be utilized. Through the RCA, this critical appraisal paper will review each study in order to determine (1) its level of evidence, (2) how well it was conducted, and (3) how useful it is to practice (Fineout-Overholt et al. 2010).

Key Components of Interest Rate Risk and Approaches of Risk Management Essay
Key Components of Interest Rate Risk and Approaches of Risk Management for Chinese Banks - Essay Example This paper illustrates that the type of risk tends to affect the stock and bond market in different ways. However, as the interest rate risk impacts the bond market negatively, the investors shift their investment pattern from the bond market to the equity market, influencing the performance of this segment of the financial market. In this paper, the key components of interest rate risk will be analyzed thoroughly. The financial system of China is considered to be one of the highly regulated, involving highly integrated economic and monetary policies. Such regulations and integrations are reflected in the functioning of the banking sector of the country as well. Therefore, for the purpose of analysis, the risk management approaches of the banking sector of China will be critically evaluated. Non- alignments arises in the balance sheet and off-balance sheet items of the banking sectors. In case of fixed interest rate, such mismatches originate at the time of maturity of the financial instrument and in case of variable interest rates; the non-alignments arise at the time of revaluation of an asset, liabilities as well as off-balance sheet instruments. Scope and size of such temporal mismatches make it critical to forecasting changes in interest rate which in turn creates huge interest rate risk. Basis value risk arises out of the asset-liability mismatches. Many times, the correlation between the value of maturities and revaluation of asset- liabilities and their calculative values becomes highly negative because of the adaptation of interest rates. This kind of risk also changes the index rates used for pricing the liabilities and asset that does not really change in a concurrent way and originates huge amount of interest rate risk

Violent Video Games in Society
Violent Video Games in Society 53 percent. That is the number received from all adults included in a survey asking their thoughts on whether they thought children got more or less violent after being introduced to violent video games. The majority believed it was fine to let the children play such content as studies have not yet proved violence in youth has a direct correlation to video games. VIdeo gaming is a multi-billion dollar industry bringing in more money than both movies and DvDs young people love getting their hands on a controller and the feeling of being thrown into a whole immersive new world. Some people might compare the feeling to reading a book but a lot better due to the graphics and dialogue. Video games have been shown to be a natural teacher to young people and that fact cannot be diminished, however with the increasing violent nature of our society more and more violent video games can be almost guaranteed in the markets. Although these might spark controversy, seeing real life events unfold in front of a childs face is more likely to make them violent than playing a video game in the comfort of their own home. According to Video Games and Crime Michael R. Ward states Relatedly, it is possible that violent games are particularly attractive to otherwise violent individuals. Independent of whether violent video game play causes a behavioral change in which individuals become more violent, it could substitute for the time spent in violent activities thereby decreasing the total amount of violence. Referring to the idea that people that play video games are so absorbed into the activity that they will spend more time playing than actually going out and pursuing violent activities. Although these facts are quite persuasive, many attempts have still been made by a few parties to reduce violence among children and teens such as the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) which bases gaming content upon alphabetical lettering. Every letter means something different and varies from EC to AO. Games have a small box located on the cases on the bottom left of the front cover. EC referring to games a ppropriate for Early Childhood. E10+ Referring to games appropriate for everyone ages 10 and up. T for teens. M for mature. And finally AO for games only appropriate for adults. Although this system is not foolproof it has been shown to reduce the amount of violence in children since the late 1990s. Reality games have been a huge game changer in the gaming community. Things such as Life Simulator, Job Simulator and so much more have effectively changed the perspectives of most young people. Showing more things about life than they would normally learn in school, Paying Bills. Reading house notes. Getting up and ready for a job and even to the point of having a wife and kid. These have been purposely made to mimic real life events to show people how life can be if they have never experienced something like that before. As the real world evolves, so do the games we play as many of them are based upon true or real world events. War. Theft. Death. Destruction. Many of these things have been included in new and even more realistic video games. Although many can be beneficial, games such as these are very surreal. Imploring the audience to realize how very horrible the world is or even visualize these situations. Even at this point these games are beneficial allowing the community to see and (if the game is immersive enough) feel how heartbreaking the loss of a friend can be. People who have bought new software such as a PlayStation (PS2, PS3, PS4) or XBox (Xbox-360 or Xbox One) have been able to play online with friends from around the world. Whether Youre defending humanitys last hope as a cyborg in the first person alien killing game Halo on XBox, or youre Defending a city with mystical powers against a pack of monsters in the addictive role-playing game known as EverQuest on Playstation. In many ways Video games are a whole new social platform. One of the biggest in fact, According to a state of the industry report by Spil Games about 1.2 billion people around the world play games alone, and over 700 million play online! Finding friends online, meeting new people and helping them out is what we all do on a day to day basis, and with video games you can do all of this in the comfort of your own home. A study, conducted by Tsung-Yen Chuang and Wei-Fan Chen and published in the April 2009 edition of Educational Technology Society concluded that more research needs to be done and that games to enhance learning need to be thoughtfully created, but they also concluded that from the results of this study, computer-based video games could function as powerful tools in assisting childrens cognitive processes. In this world it is important for everyones children to learn as quickly as possible. This is the most technologically advanced the world has ever been and with that being said everyone has unlimited information available at all times. People just have to make it all count for the future of our society, video games can change the future There are many many precautions that come along with the evolution of video games, but the fact remains that although some might be too violent for certain children studies have shown that they still retain important information than they usually would in school. These gaming platforms have become a basis upon which we teach our children the basic concept of imagination. Showing them that anything can be possible as long as you put your mind to it and have the willingness to do something. Instead of getting rid of games altogether, I suggest that we rather provide more information about life into them.. Works Cited Video Games and Children: Playing with Violence. The Electoral Systems of Britain and Sweden Essay -- comparative polit
The Electoral Systems of Britain and Sweden The quality of a democracy is regulated by the electoral system that awards seats in democratic assemblies to those seeking office. This paper will compare the electoral systems of the parliaments of the United Kingdom (herein called Britain) and Sweden in order to determine which country has the preferred electoral system. The quality to be measured is the fairness of democratic representation, which is to say, how properly the various public interests are represented and how much control voters have over their government. The first part of the paper will study each electoral system separately, looking at the mechanics of how the members of parliament are elected, what kind of political party system can participate in the parliament, and how the parties go about setting up the executive branch of government. The second part will compare and contrast the two parliaments, and afterwards it will be shown how one of the parliaments represents its electorate more fairly and democraticall y. These two countries have been chosen because Britain?s electoral system is characterized as a system of single-member districts, and Sweden?s system is considered to provide proportional representation, which strives to elect members of political parties in the proportions in which votes were cast. The Electoral System in Britain Voters in Britain elect members of the House of Commons, the more powerful lower house of the Westminster Parliament, for maximum terms of five years. Each one of the 659 electoral districts sends one member to the House of Commons after being chosen on the basis of plurality. Candidates obtain their places on the ballot by being nominated by their party. Frequently the w... ...). "The Election of the Swedish Riksdag, September 2002," Representation. 39(2): 146-156. The Perfect Civilization essays
The Perfect Civilization essays Civilization is defined as a relatively high level of cultural and technological development, but what does this really mean? This definition is relative to when and where you live. Someone living in Milwaukee today will have a different description of civilization than someone living in twelfth-century England. More specifically, the dictionary defines civilization as the stage of cultural development at which writing and keeping written records is attained, but this is ambiguous as well. Our cave-dwelling ancestors had the ability to carve things into rock, and some of these carvings even tell stories. Does this mean, then, that they were civilized? Civilization is not a term that can be defined in the dictionary very well, because everyone has a different image of what civilization is. Some say that now, even with inventions such as the telephone, the computer and Internet, that we're not civilized people. Some say civilization is anywhere densely populated, this is evident when p eople say they've come 'back to civilization'. Civilization is a difficult term to grasp, and the ideal civilization is an even more difficult concept. What makes a civilization ideal? The ideal civilization, whether it's on an alien planet, or here on Earth, will consist of an egalitarianistic society, a system of law and order that focuses on rehabilitation instead of punishment, and a hybrid system of government. In the ideal civilization, conflict must be kept to a minimum. One of the many causes of conflict is segregation, whether it's through social status, race or political affiliation. In the ideal society, everyone is equal in the eyes of the government. Equal salaries, free time and the like. This approach is somewhat communist, but the government will not follow a strictly communist regime. In order to keep the population working hard, you have to keep the population happy. This can lead to problems because, as it's evident in current communi ...

PERSONAL STATEMENT FOR APPLICATION AT UNIVERSITY TO DO A MASTERS IN TEACHING ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (TESOL) - Essay Example This makes bilingual people unique, especially if they are focused on passing this knowledge to other children. I am very determined and self-confidence person. I believe that this is due to me being bilingual. That is why I would like to set up an example and become a role model to kids abroad that they can master English as their mother tongue and become bilingual like me. Since my long term goal is to actually teach English as a foreign language, I have done an extensive research what would be the best educational option for me after graduating with Bachelor degree in English Language and Literature. There are multiple qualification centres and courses, offering one to three months full time courses, which are accredited by the Association for Accredited English Language Centres. Humanities-week 2 - Term Paper Example I believe that he is someone who has the capacity to lead a nation without fear of dying. He also showed how loyal he is to his friends and companions when he fought back for Patroclus. Even if he refused to fight anymore, he begged his mother to make him new armour ended his refusal to fight.
